To Carb, Or Not To Carb?
So often carbs get a bad rap!
In my yo-yo diet days I thought I couldn't eat any carbs at all. Which was actually damaging to my body because, my body NEEDS carbs for energy!
The thing is, I can definitely eat carbs, I just have to choose the RIGHT carbs!
There are two different types of carbohydrates: complex and simple.
Complex carbs are great for improving our digestion and adding fibre to our diet. They help give us tons of energy and keep us satisfied between our meals and even stabilize our blood sugar levels! BOOM!
These babies are things like whole grains, veggies & fruits.
Some of my staple complex carbs are : Brussel sprouts (my personal faves), sweet potatoes, asparagus, oats, and beans.
Then there are the simple carbs. These babies are things we should mostly avoid. Sugar and white flours. They send our blood sugar levels to crazy town & they break down easily, which means you feel hungry sooner, total bummer!
The only simple carbs we should sink our teeth into are fruits. Fruit of course packs vital minerals and nutrients for your bod! Fruit is also digested slower because it contains fibre. Yay fiber!
Now what happens if we pair a complex carb with some lean protein? We create a power packed, fat burning meal which even helps us feel full longer! Which is why we should rock this nutrient dense combo at each meal. The reason it helps us feel full longer, is because it slows down the carb to fat conversion in our bods, so awesome!
